Factions
The galaxy is divided among 8 major factions, each with their own territories, economies, and attitudes. Your standing with each faction affects prices, available missions, and where you can safely operate.
The 8 Factions
Sol Federation
The central government of humanity's core worlds. Bureaucratic, wealthy, and relatively safe. Their systems are well-regulated with stable markets.
Colonial Authority
Manages the outer colonies and frontier systems. Less regulation than Sol, but also less infrastructure. Good opportunities for independent traders.
Industrial Guild
A consortium of manufacturing corporations. Their stations are production hubs with high demand for raw materials and good prices on manufactured goods.
Agricultural Collective
Farming cooperatives spanning multiple systems. They produce food and organic materials, constantly needing industrial supplies in return.
Research Consortium
Scientists and academics focused on technological advancement. Their stations often have unique commodities and pay well for rare materials.
United Defense Force
The military arm of civilized space. They maintain security in high-sec systems and always need supplies - fuel, weapons, ship parts.
Independent Traders
A loose association of free traders and merchants. Neutral territory, often the best place for trade deals without faction complications.
Frontier Alliance
Pioneers of the outer reaches. Rough systems with high risk but potentially high reward. Lower security, higher profit margins.
How Standing Works
Your standing with each faction ranges from -100 (hostile) to +100 (allied). Standing affects:
| Standing Level | Effect |
|---|---|
| Allied (+75 to +100) | Best prices, exclusive missions |
| Friendly (+25 to +74) | Good prices, most services available |
| Neutral (-24 to +24) | Standard prices, basic services |
| Unfriendly (-25 to -74) | Higher prices, limited services |
| Hostile (-75 to -100) | Denied entry to faction stations |
Gaining and Losing Standing
Ways to gain standing:
- Complete missions for the faction
- Trade at their stations (small bonus)
- Help their allies
Ways to lose standing:
- Attack faction ships
- Smuggle illegal goods into their space
- Help their enemies
Faction Relationships
Factions have relationships with each other. Helping one faction may hurt your standing with their rivals:
- Sol Federation and Colonial Authority compete for influence
- Industrial Guild and Agricultural Collective depend on each other
- Frontier Alliance and United Defense Force often clash
Choose your allies carefully. In ECON Galaxy, reputation matters.
